Smoothing the Skin Tone

Do you notice age spots, liver spots, freckles or birth marks on your skin? These are all forms of skin pigmentation disorders. While a few freckles here and there don't seem so bad, some people have developed a pigmentation disorder to such a severe degree that their skin looks uneven and blotchy, due to an overproduction or underproduction of pigment in the skin.

Melanin is the name of this pigment, and it is responsible for absorbing those harmful UV rays that come from the sun. The more sun exposure we have, the more melanin is deposited, and as a result, the skin gets darker. A dark tan is due to this same process (from natural sunlight, or artificial). Overproduction of melanin, or hyperpigmentation, can also be a result of acne scarring, hormonal changes, and nutritional deficiency or prescription drugs.

We take notice of this process after seeing color patches surface on our faces, but by this time it is too late. The sun damage has already been done.

However, don't lose hope because there are options out there to help in decreasing the appearance of hyperpigmentation in addition to smoothing and evening out the skin tone. Several types of treatments are available to improve the appearance of your skin. Talk with our facialist to learn about the best options for you. We look forward to working with you to achieve beautiful, radiant skin.
